Humectants and Anti-Humectants Humectants -attract and bind moisture Anti-humectants - seal/lock in moisture Humectants: Natural: glycerin, honey, algae extracts, kelp, lecithin, aloe vera Commercial: panthenol, sodium pca, sorbitol, hydrolized proteins, glycols (i.e propylene), silicones Anti-humectants/anhydrous (do not contain water): Oils and butters (i.e. olive oil, shea butter, mango butter, beeswax, coconut oil, castor oil, etc) Products that can work as both humectants and anti-humectants: Aloe Vera It helps moisturize the hair and scalp. When the aloe vera is cold, it helps close the cuticles. Aloe vera also balances the hair's pH.
