TRANSITIONING TIPS

Are you transitioning and still have a lot of relaxed ends remaining, try these simple tips to help you through your transition: 1. Get rid of any relaxer you have in your house ...You may be tempted to use the relaxer if you start to get frustrated with your transitioning tresses. 2. Work with your hair in sections. This will allow you to focus on one section at a time. 3. Try to opt for co-washing at least once a week in the beginning. If you choose to shampoo, focus on your scalp and allow the shampoo to run down the rest of your strands as you rinse the shampoo out. You can also apply a good pre-poo treatment with an oil if you choose. 4. Detoxing the hair with a clay is another option to cleanse the hair and scalp (i.e rhassoul or bentonite) or use an ayurvedic powder (i.e. aritha or shikakai). Detoxing (clarifying) help to pull toxins and buildup from the hair and scalp. 5. Rotate your moisturizing and protein conditioners. One week use your moisturizing conditioner and then the next week or the week after use a protein conditioner followed by a moisturizing conditioner. (Use a heat cap, steamer or hooded dryer) 6. After applying a moisturizing conditioner to your hair; follow with a light oil or aloe vera juice to help seal in the moisture. 7. Hot oil treatments help soften the line of demarcation. 8. Clip an inch a month until all the relaxed ends have been removed (if you're a long term transitioner). 9.Try to work with your natural texture instead of against it. Try styles such as flexi-rod sets; straw sets; body/roller wraps; braid/twist outs; updo's; or box braids. 10. When styling your hair, apply a little conditioner/leave-in conditioner to your natural hair (new growth); apply a heat cap for 5 to 10minutes - this will help soften the natural hair. This will also help you manipulate the hair a little better. 11. Learn product ingredients. This will allow you to make better choices when it comes to selecting products for your hair.
